Well it was the Christmas Fancy Dress Party! Posted by Hello

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Having felt rather fed-up with the old styly, decided to add some more bling to the site design & go for something a little more hip.

Alternatively: Having so much time on my hands allowed me to give this blog so many of you visit - thnx! - a new look after so long with the far too simple design.

Hope you all like it. Please leave your comments - i do read them and will take them into account if you feel there is anything else i can add to the site.

Cheers! - Have a proper good crimbo!

Andy.

NEWS FLASH!!

In what was going to be a perfect weekend of work after the Devonshire Hall Christmas Ball 2004: "7 Deadly Sins", Andrew Benton found out on Monday afternoon that he has Tonsillitis and is to take pencillin with ibruprofen to aid his recovery. He is currently unable to eat after loosing his appetite due to the pain from trying to swallow whilst having inflammed tonsils.
Monday night is the Devonshire Hall Christmas Concert, Andrew is also now unable to play his tuba in this due to the sudden illness.

In a statement to the local online news agency, Mr Benton, student at leeds university, said that he was "upset about being so ill at a crucial time with so much work to do and the concert i was looking forward to playing in - a once in a lifetime opportunity." he continued " However, these things cannot be helped and i will have to focus on recovering and hoping that God will help sort things out. I will appreciate your prayers on my health and completion of 5 pieces of assessed coursework. Many Thanks."

After his statement, Andrew returned to his room and continued to drink liquids including lucozade to give him some more energy in his rather weak state.

Reading Week, Manchester, Work Work Work, Kyoto, Prize Giving, Fieldtrip to Scotland!! NOW COMPLETE!

Quite a lot to write about as you can tell from the title, so lets get on with it!

This last week I've had no lectures, tutorials or seminars - it was Reading Week!!! Hurrah!
Reading week is like a half-term only that you get to do your own reading around the subject and catching up on any work you are behind with - its great!
Of course lots of us do some work then either go home or visit our mates who also have a reading week, this brings me nicely onto Manchester! From Thursday to Saturday afternoon I departed Leeds and caught the TransPennine Express (train for those who don't know) across to Manchester where I met my best friend Becky in Manchester Piccadilly station. She is at the Unviersity of Manchester reading Theology & Religious Studies. Its so not fair! She has Internet Connection in her room as standard as well as a telephone line with free internal calls to her mates! - Nothing like this in leeds - perhaps we have too much work to do?? Oh well!!
Went round the shops whilst i was there - had a good time and managed to tell her what God is doing at the moment over here in Leeds... Watch This Space!
I also had the priveledge of travelling on the Metrolink tram across Manchester to Manchester Victoria Station.... back to leeds....

I've recently had to write an essay about the impacts of the Kyoto Protocol on an Industrial sector in the EU. This was very difficult as in many of the books no significant impacts were mentioned. You had to decide what the impacts were etc. which meant then that the arguement was a little vague. Least it was only a practice! :)

The night of Thursday 11th November 2004 was QMHS Prize Giving! The day that i would receive my A-level certificates infront of an appreciative crowd at Walsall Town Hall. Needing to be seated at 7:15pm I arrived in Walsall at 7pm after Virgin Trains & Central Trains both had delays en route from Leeds & Birmingham New St respectively. But once i was there it was great to catch up with all my friends i had not seen since study leave all those months ago - and i managed to get their numbers as i didnt have a phone last time i saw them! :D

The very next morning had to wake up at 4:30 to catch the first train at 6am so as to arrive back in Leeds ready for lectures from 10-12 then a fieldtrip to Scotland at 3:30 that afternoon!
Arrived back at my hall at 8:55 just in time to catch some breakfast and pack a little more for scotland. After lectures returned back to Devonshire (Dev) and finished packing the warm clothes.
In the highest villages in Scotland - Wanlockhead (where the highest Pub in scotland is) & Leadhills we were put into groups to collect soil and sediment samples. This meant getting blasted by a freezing cold gale on Saturday whilst soil sampling and getting wet in size 14 waders as it rained during sediment sampling in the local streams.

However, each night we were in pub playing pool for 20p! and were in there from 9pm on Friday night til about 11/12 and from about 8 (after our evening meal in the pub) til 12. Lots of fun with a bunch of students who totally fill the entire pub! They must've made a killing even though the price of 1/2 pint of Lemonade & Lime was just 50p!

Since coming back we have now had to analyse these samples in the laboratory. :-) Fun!

This weekend i've been called up into the Leeds University Union Music Society Symphonic Wind band to play in a concert tonight & a festival competition tomorrow - needing to wake up for 8am on a Sunday morning!

Right i'd better go - been rambling enough already!

Take care everybody!

AWESOME!

This weekend was the Leeds University Christian Union's House Party 2004 at Quinta in Shropshire. I had no hesitation in going and it turns out i had a fantastic time as i made lots of new mates within the CU, got to meet and speak with many of the current members of the exec. team as well as learn and be challenged from quality teaching from Ken Cowan, our guest speaker, and fellow students in CU.
The weekend basically consisted of two seminar sessions where you could choose from seminars on discipleship, testimonies and spirtitual discipline to name but a few. There was also whole group meetings where we had a talk from Ken and worship alongside the notices and prayer.
Being an AYF-er i can say it was very much similar to Cloverley, but of course different because there was no Rob Cook, Matt Emery, Trevor, Lee, Becky or Katie - nor was there the same atmosphere as at AYF weekends away - however this was a good thing as the reason behind it is because with lots of different aged students it was a more mature atmosphere with people just like you - broke students.

However, it also shows how great a group AYF really is - if a bunch of students can create a weekend away that almost (yes, almost) is the same as the AYF Cloverley, Camp Experience - which is totally unique - and thats because God works in many different ways with different people. :-)

I really look forward to looking ahead to see if i can be at Cloverley - i'd love to be there with my AYF Family.

For now though, I'm in Leeds living my life with & for almighty God, who i know has a marvellous plan for my life which i'm starting to see unfold - or at least i think so!

May God Bless you all and his Holy Spirit keep you refreshed and wanting to grow in your christian faith each and everyday on earth.

As paul says in Philippians 1:21 ".. to live is Christ and to die is gain" - a very challenging verse i know, but something which not only shows us how awesome paul was, but perhaps something we should focus on the meaning of in our own lives.

Anyway, I'd best get on, I've lots to do in Reading Week this week (1st-5th November) with an essay to write on the kyoto protocol and visiting my best friend in Manchester.

All the best, God bless (yes again)

Update in process.........

Hurrah! An Update From Devonshire Hall, Leeds University

Hey Guys! Very Sorry the site hasnt been updated in quite a while, with lots of university preparation being done, i've not had much time over the summer to have updated the site .... until now i'm actually at uni and have found a free pc in the local cluster.

On my journey to Leeds, i felt quite relaxed about leaving home to be at university in a dingy typical student room, until the signs on the M1 started saying " Leeds 10 miles". At that point it became pretty much reality that i was not going to return home properly til well like christmas!! Whoa! :S

But i've now settled in really well, made some good mates including another christian lad who in fact lives on the same floor as me!! He also plays saxophone, so - there are two christian musicians? on the same floor. FANTASTIC!

Freshers week (last week) was a nervous week at the start but after the first night social things got a lot easier as i made the mates i'm with now and also found out that an old mate of mine from QM Girls is also here in the hall!!! (whats the chance of that?!?!) Yes i've been down the union quite a bit, yes drinking a few pints - not getting drunk - and having a good time with the mates i've not only met in dev (my hall), but also the mates from my course. :) There's a nice group of us who socialise together really well and have already met up a few times outside the academic meetings.

The Christian Union here in Leeds is really really good, i've been to the first meeting and it was a great time - the entire tent was packed to the brim. Yesterday (sunday 26th) i went to church with some of the other christians i have met (incuding my neighbour) from dev. and other CU students i met during the week. The Service was fantastic and i really felt God say during the service whilst watching a grown lady get baptised that I haven't come to Leeds, God Has brought me to Leeds.

This obviously must mean that there is something in store for me, as it appears to be his main plan! - Watch This Space!?

Right. I've spent long enough on here typing away, better go socialise and let someone else use the internet .

Take Care everybody, remember, Jesus Loves You.

love you all (as well) Andy Benton, Student.

Quote : "Girls Aint Everything"

Hurrah! Arsenal don't win the FA Cup, Man United did... then again they were not even in the final! haha! - Unlucky Millwall, they didn't quite have enough quality to score..
Man U 3 - 0 Millwall.

Best of Luck 2 Hednesford - they are playing Canvey Island in the FA Trophy Final @ villa park. :)

Right, that's the football over!

Hello everybody!
Have any of you seen 'Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind'? - its a cracking film, the storyline is fantastic - hope u followed it as well.. He!

Sorry guys - You cannot erase memories... The good ones or the bad ones - they are part of your life.

And now for the quote .. The up-and-coming Polictican Mr Thomas Mason once said to a noble gent that "..Girls Aint Everything.." . Of Course, the noble gentleman knew that and after much discussion about whether love exists or if its just the longing 2 love, the noble gent and upcoming Politician finally agreed on focusing on life in general not just have a life governed by the liking of the opposite sex.. :)

But.. the story doesn't end there -> After this the politician went on to speak about how the noble gent is living a dream and subsequently he loves to sing ".. Living On A Prayer.." as at a level that can be heard by the noble gent and enjoyed by all around..

With this type of behaviour with other members of the electorate, he's not going to get many votes!!

University Decision Finally Made

After much hard deliberation, I have finally made up my mind about Unversity choices as well as some other
trivial things that you guys have read on here.

University wise - My first choice is Meteorology @ Reading.
2nd Choice - Met and Atmospheric Science @ Leeds

So the way things are looking I'll be leaving home end of September! :O yikes!

Regarding the ongoing Emily and Sarah Morgan details, the definitive version is only written here..

" Emily is a very attractive young lady with whom i cherish a friendship."

" Sarah is an extremely attractive lady, whose friendship i am honured to hold, even if my feelings for her run a little riot from time to time.. "

I hope that clears up a few areas.

Easter 2004

Well folks, he died on the cross to save us from our sins... and he rose again .... Hallelujah!

Although my question is : What happened on "Easter Saturday"? - the story only appears to have the day he died,
which we take as Good Friday then Easter Day - his resurrection.

So, what happened on this day, Easter Saturday? was it just simply the saturday sabbath when they mourned the
loss of jesus?

I leave it open to you.. comments welcome!!

Regarding the ladies there begs the answer to the question: Is it emily or sarah (morgan) ?? :$

Well lads - ure gonna have 2 wait a wee while longer!! :) sorry!

" You Call That A Score? "

(Yes, that is a quote from laser quest which i will come to later)

<< INSERT >> Clocks Go Forward Saturday 27th March - BST begins!! Hurrah!!

GREETINGS my cyber family and welcome this weeks edition of Tubas Tabloid, full as ever with relationships news and various other tits bits ( or goss ) that i happen to come across.

We'll begin with Dave B as he has one of his most rewarding weeks, from playing with a garden claw, which he will vividly perform for you, to receive a donation towards the china mission - to pulling a nice chick for a nite. WOW! Way 2 Go Mr Breen!

Speeding onto the Car Park on Friday night was Mr Rich Steward who has passed his entire driving test 1ST TIME!
Its just a shame his driving already has a reputuation...

And Laser Quest: There's something fishy with those laser packs.
I had a pack that didnt register any hits, so i shot 797 blanks and got a score of -190... However, in the same game that score was superceded by -285 or so by Trevor - who can u believe, managed to zap 10-15 people without firing a shot!!

What on earth is going on there,eh?
Never mind - its all part of the game..

The man of the night though had to be Mark Coleman with fantastic scores late on.. well done.. a big shout out to Az, who is still looking for a mini by the way, who acheived 1000 points !!

OK - my scores: 147, -190, 252 - an average performance considering the varying standard of laser packs.

And - Who thinks i fancy emily ?? - Its no longer funny..

Anyone going to see The Passion Of The Christ soon?
- feel obliged to leave your comments on it here!

1 Month Later.. (well, almost) - An Update!!!

Yeh, hi folks.. there are many reasons why this was not updated since almost a month ago....
I have been flat out with coursework & homework and at skool there is now a monitoring system..
that watches your every move on the computer - if your not doing work you can get kicked off the network which is not sensible bearing in mind i do ICT and need the notes off the shared area...

And as it is, i only come on at weekends and i have not had much to right here lately.. apologies to you all!

News The most recent news is the January 2004 AS / A2 module results..

They are a pleasing set of results - i have gone up from an E to a C in physics module 3 (resit), from an E to an A in ICT - brining my overall grade to a B ... 12 marks off an A at AS, which is well above my target of a C...

IN A2 modules i have some work to do! Reached an E (5 marks of a D) in Physics module 4 {this i expected} and a
grade D in maths - this is my target!

So pretty good results really.. and now i've gotta try and sort out my 1st & 2nd Uni choices between Leeds, Reading & maybe even Keele (earth system science)...

Babe Of The Week: Its not Sarah M! :O Emily A ! (- no lads!! not that reason -)

Buddy News: Stew's driving test! - Tuesday morning - Best of Luck m8!!

Anyone for a beer?

Thanks for the comments as always.. keep em coming in..

Harsh Reality

Happy New Year To Everybody

I'll Start with saying a huge thanks to Roy From The Factory, for a super party last wednesday..
Had a really great time, even drinking coke.. proves you dont need Alcohol i spose..

The one thing that did strike me new years day at 2:30 am or so, was something
that someone said to me earlier..

" .. All 'coz you can't pull .."

- As silly as it may seem, there is truth in that quote.

That night i realised that i was still living part of my life in the shadow of the events of 2002...
i shall not go into that.

Therefore, this what seems to have been a harsh reality is in fact telling me to change in 2004,
that basically i need to " live a little" and not be so :$ shy infront of certain people, etc .

So, that is the dream i spose.. and i'm gonna live the dream, its looks cooler than what i have now.

- Maybe the shyness is replaced with greater confidence now, we'll see...

*** Quick Note to say that the site shall not be updated in detail til February time due 2 exams***

Catch u all soon.
