Train Collides with Cow!

On Thursday morning, after having attended the Birmingham Uni Postgraduate Open Day the previous day, I boarded the 08:03 Virgin Voyager service (train) to Edinburgh via Leeds.

Then having called at Tamworth & Burton-upon-Trent, just half-hour into the journey, the train suddenly starts breaking heavily, in coach C we hear a bump and feel a lot of jolting followed by the train coming to an abrupt halt. An announcement from the train manager tells us that we had just hit a cow that was on the rails! :-O

Events then took a nasty turn after about one hour standing still, the train was deemed out of service due to damage to the braking system. We were then dropped off at Willington station (nr. Derby) and put onto the (delayed due to us being in the way), Newcastle train - unfortunately this train was not running to Leeds, so I had to change at Sheffield to get the 1hr-long journey up to Leeds.

In the end, I was about 2hours later arriving in Leeds and late to my 12noon lecture!

An unbelievable set of events!

Thank God in my prayers, that the train did not derail! :-)

Update & New Look!

Yes, finally an update is here - my first having turned 21 (so old!) ! Apologies to all those visiting over the last few months for lack of new content due to unforeseen circumstances. These circumstances are now sorted and you can look forward to more regular updates as I realise I've very little time left and a dissertation to be written straight after Crimbo/Christmas.

As it happens, the last 3 weeks saw some important deadlines this term, including one assessment worth 10% of my final Dissertation mark - the Design Summary! Not an easy piece of work as you need to consider every last detail of your dissertation and in simple terms, show what you're doing when and how, even which data you shall be using.

In my case, with my great interest in meteorology (weather), my dissertation is going to look at the very topical and relevant subject of "UK Heatwaves.. although I shall not try and alienate my readers with all the science!

When I am not studying hard, part of my time is now taken up by playing my tuba in the Music Society Brass Band, Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SWO) and Windband. All three provide me with a totally different musical experience and from joining Brass Band a month ago, I'm really enjoying it! Also I'm a properly official member of the society this year and the socials including 18-stage pub run has been good fun so far!!

In other news: I'm now considering my future in terms of employment and/or Postgraduate study (Masters etc.) and will be visiting Birmingham University on November 29th to see how whats what with their general postgraduate arrangements.. :-) - Just as well I have the day off on a Wednesday and 12noon-start on a Thursday!

Other than that its a hard-working slog til the end of term with "Water Quality", "Website Design" and some "climate model" work needed to be completed/submitted by the end of term on December 8th! Then its a 4 week vacation from university with some dissertation work thrown in until the schools are off too!

Do keep your comments coming in & i promise more frequent updates now alls going smoothly again!

God Bless Always, Tuba (aka "The Bone")

Camp 2006 and beyond...More photos: http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/3688054

After a fantastic time in the Gower on Camp 2006, it is now time to focus my attention to my dissertation and the upcoming fieldtrip to the Isle of Arran on September 9th - 16th.

I'm well looking forward to it, though have a fair bit of freetime that I'm struggling to fill after finding out my chance of a temporary job this summer is over after the temp agency i had registered for had their temporary manager leave. :-( never mind, it was obviously not meant to be!

All thats left is for me to wish all of you a good summer and a good holiday if u've not yet been or if you are staying around, get in touch!!

Take Care & God Bless, tuba x

COME ON ENGLAND!

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Just when you thought you'd seen it all....

.. your next door neighbours have a ball..!

Students in general are widely reknown for their antics, especially after some excessive alchohol intake, but never have i known someone's cat get put in a bin, a neighbour's child's slide be dismantled, a bed from a house end up in the front garden, a car get boxed in by wheelie bins and the cat that was in the bin end up stuck on the roof...! :S (all this not by my friends!)

Quite a night for some ....
more news will appear here as it happens,
2weeks remaining of my 2nd year teaching!!

February 19th 2006 - Target Date

Today is the day. The day of my baptism as a follower of Jesus Christ, our saviour.

It is so exciting to be just hours away from the event, once and for all leaving behind the past and actively moving forwards in my life, it is the first step i have felt called to take since my passion for the Lord was re-ignited back at the end of October whilst at the CU Houseparty. :-)

** Watch this space for some photos etc.... and may God Bless you now and forever,
